SSR Wheels Brings Back a Legend

Old and new offerings from SSR and Tanabe

Seeing a company like SSR Wheels at SEMA is absolutely refreshing. They were around long before I ever stepped into the enthusiast community and even from my earliest experiences, they were always at the very top of the food chain so to speak. High quality wheels with styling that seemed to undeniably outlast any and all fly-by-night trends over the years.

One of my favorite wheels from SSR was the classic Formula Mesh design. While mesh or "web" wheels were really nothing new at the time, SSRs version simply stood above the rest with a unique center section, ultra-clean face and their signature lip. Almost a decade ago, the wheel was discontinued though you could still find used sets floating around on the forums. The problem being that many of the used sets were in less than stellar condition, after having traded owners multiple times. As I entered the Tanabe/SSR booth during SEMA, I spotted a gold, 15in 4-lug version and a silver, 16in 5-lug version on display. I figured they were probably from SSR's personal collection, but James Nagahashi of Tanabe set things straight by informing me the SSR Formula Mesh wheel is being re-released! The 5-lug version features SSRs reverse, or stepped lip and is also available in 19in for larger cars. The same classis look is used, though it's been strengthened to meet current regulation.

Along with the Formula Mesh revival, SSR displayed more modern designs like the GTT V02 which is a strong, lightweight design that is competitively priced and available in 15-19in versions.

Also from Tanabe is an array of Revel VLS gauges that includes water and oil temp, oil pressure and boost, as well as a Wideband that includes a Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor - an industry standard. The visors used to shade the gauge faces in harsh sunlight are also included.
